* Introduction of Lisianthus Young Plants

Since 2007, we started our business in Lisianthus young plants production.  Our goal is to become exclusive young plant producer for professional seed companies and provide Lisianthus cut flower growers with healthy seedlings.  The annual production is targeting at 2.3 million plants.

The young plant production greenhouse is completed in 2009, with a total area of 1,904 m2 including 961m2 for young plant production.  The greenhouse is 4 meters high and equipped with roof ventilation, pad and fan system, in-door shading,   air-conditioning, artificial light, carbon dioxide generator, and Netafim irrigation System.  The temperature is maintained at 25 C during daytime and 15 to 18 C during night time.

Lisianthus is originated from arid part of South America Region.  If the climate is too humid, it would cause disease.  It is recommended to use medium with excellent ventilation such as the peat moss.  Also in order to develop better root system and quality in plants and flowering, the seeds are recommended to sow in deeper and wider cell plugs.  The quality of Canadian peat moss we use is exceptional and the supply is stable along with a fine texture.  The seeds are sow in 209 cell plugs.  After sowing, the seeds are going through a low-temperature pre-cooling treatment for two weeks.  The pre-cooling treatment is used to break dormancy and improve germination uniformity.  The optimal temperature for germination is 20 to 25 C.  Lisianthus is a light germinator.  Without sufficient light, excessive elongation of hypocotyl, low cotyledon leaf development, and low growth may happen which would cause low germination rate.  Our current seed germination rate is over 90%.

After germination, the seedlings are very sensitive to high or low temperature during night time.  The optimal temperature for young plant growth is 15 to 18 C.  Approximately 8 to 10 weeks later, the seedlings will grow into young plants with four leaves.  During this period, we will perform two times of grading according to the size of young plants.  We ship in carton boxes.  The survival rate of seedlings after transplant can be up to 70%.
